Class 2 - Mrs Dunkerley
27th March 2018
This week in Literacy we have been looking at similes to help us look at the language of The Highwayman. To help us understand what similes are we wrote some about Roman soldiers and had lots of fun in the process!
In Maths we are learning about decimal places to 3 d.p and solving problems related to these.
We have also been completing the end of term assessments and have been practising lots for the production 'Jack and the Beanstalk'!
Spelling test will be Thursday 29th March 2018 and is homophones (week 4)
16th March 2018
This week we have been reading the poem 'The Highwayman' in Literacy, looking specifically at the language of the poem.
In Maths we have been learning about decimal places to 3 d.p and partitioning out the number so it helps us to compare them.
As it's National Science Week we have also been 'Building Bridges' using Lego to investigate forces. The children had lots of fun as you can see!
Spellings for this week are tricky words and will be tested on the 23rd March 2018:
As part of our materials topic, we are learning about materials and their properties. This includes: solids, liquids and gases and challenging the children with their perceptions of solids. To challenge their understanding of solids, we made slime so the children could work out that a solid has a fixed volume but can be squashed and squeezed.
Year 5 Open Event - Ancient Greece
Thank you to all parents, carers and grandparents who attended the Year 5 open event which showcased their work on the Greeks. There was food, models that the children had made, the mini Olympics, a quiz and lots of other exciting things to look at and take part in.All the children thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm sure the adults did too!
PC Whitehouse talk on Anti-Bullying
The Year 5/6 children had a talk by PC Whitehouseto promote Anti-Bullying. This is to raise awareness of anti-bullying with the children.
P.E - Gymnastics
The class (a couple of months) ago designed their own Greek Plates, during art, based on their topic 'Ancient Greece'. The outcomes were brilliant and they all worked extremely hard.
The children have been tasting food from Greece, based on their topic 'Ancient Greece'. They thoroughly enjoyed tasting the food and thought that they tasted really nice.
A big ‘HELLO’ from me, Mrs Dunkerley. I’m really excited to be working together with the support of Mrs Berry.
All the children have settled into their classes very well and are enthusiastic and raring to go, which is great to see. If you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with me.
