In 'Poo' Process💩 - 16/03/18
Today, we learnt how the digestive system works. We used a clear bag to represent the stomach and tights to represent the intestine. We crunched and squished various foods in the bag, added orange juice (stomach acid) and water. After combining the ingredients, we transferred it to the intestine. We worked the stomach contents down the intestine until it made its way out of the other end.
World Book Day📖 - 09/03/18
World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. At Marsden Junior School, everybody dressed up as characters from their favourite books. In the morning in class 3KA, we decorated our door in a Dr. Suess theme. Throughout the day, the children had the opportunity to do various activities linked to some amazing books. They were: Mr men, Dr. Suess, BFG, Jungle Book, War Game, The Twits and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

Parent Math Workshop➕ - 06.02.18
Thanks to all of the parents who attended our first ever math workshop. The parent math workshop aimed to provide an insight into how we teach maths at Marsden Junior School. We demonstrated and discussed how our mastery flow model challenges our pupils on a daily basis. We even put our parents through their paces as they had to complete our daily arithmetic test and times table challenge. It was a fun afternoon and we can't wait to invite our parents in again!
Boccia Fun!🏐 - 01/02/18
Boccia is a seated, target, Paralympic sport that is played indoors with soft leather balls. It's sport of intriguing tactics, incredible skill and nail biting tension! It is also a new sport for MJS. On Thursday 1st February, we entered our first ever Boccia tournament with a team of Year 3 superstars. Dan, Rebecca and Lily demonstrated fantastic teamwork and determination and managed to win 2 of their 4 matches. What a result for our first ever try at Boccia! Well done!
The Perfect Combination🍫 - 25/01/18
Today in maths, we started our next topic - fractions. We learnt what a numerator and a denominator is. A numerator represents how many pieces there are and a denominator represents how many pieces there are altogether. We used chocolate to visually represent different fractions. At the end of the lesson, Mr. Adams let us have some of the chocolate!
A Spring (roll) In Your Step🇨🇳 - 18/01/18
We have moved on from 'Extreme Earth and this term our topic is China. This morning, we made vegetable spring rolls. This will link with our literacy as we will be writing a set of instructions on how to make a spring roll.

Culture Day🇫🇷 - 12/12/17
Bonjour! Today, it was Marsden Junior School’s culture day. In 3KA, we visited France! In the morning, we had hot chocolate and croissants whilst we learnt about how French children celebrate Christmas. Did you know, in some parts of France, Christmas comes early when Father Christmas (le Père Noël) brings small gifts and sweets for children on December 6th, the feast day of Saint-Nicolas. Also, we made French inspired baubles which we will be bringing home. After lunch, we made crêpes and watched Rodolphe le renne au nez rouge, which is the French version of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. Then, we made an informational poster or a fact file to show what we had learnt throughout the day. It was a fun day and we can’t wait for culture day 2018. Mr. Adams recorded the whole event for the school, stay tuned as the video will be uploaded to the homepage.
Angle Challenge!⦜ - 06/12/17

Year 3 Open Event👨👩👧👦📚 - 24/11/17
Today, our parents came into school to do some fun 'Extreme Earth' activities. In the hall, there was a rainbow skittle activity, an 'Extreme Earth' quiz, photo booth and we displayed our homemade kites. In Mr.Adams' room, we made crazy tornados in a bottle using glitter, water and washing up liquid. In Mrs. Hill's room, we painted some amazing tornado patterns. It was a fun morning and we can't wait to invite our parents in again!
Over the past 2 weeks, we have been exploring angles, 2D and 3D shapes. We went into the hall with long pieces of string and made different 2D shapes. Mr. Adams called out a shape and we had to use our bodies as the vertices to make that shape. We also made 3D shapes using straws and play dough. Stay tuned for our 'Types of angle' music video. In the meantime, enjoy this slideshow.
Today, we went to Magna! Magna is a science centre set in the former Templeborough steelworks. We explored the 'Earth, Fire, Water and Air Pavilions'. We also watched 'The Big Melt', which is a fantastic show recreating the history and working of 'E' furnace, one of 6 electric arc furnaces that once melted the steel. We loved going to 'The Fire Pavilion' as it creates an awesome five metre fire tornado!🔥 In 'The Air Pavilion', we got to experience extreme winds. We were all blown away!💨
