Welcome to Year 5's page. A big 'HELLO' from Mr. Adams and Mr. Kaye. We are really excited to be working together with the support of Mrs. Noonan, who will also be teaching Born to Move. What a hoot🦉

This week, we have dissected owl pellets - it was interesting to see what the owls had digested.

World book day📚

In year 5, we had a great day celebrating world book day. Our theme was 'Guiness World Records'. We tried to break records such as: pea roll, how many t-shirts in a minute and quickest to order alphabetti spaghetti.

Who did it?!

In literacy, year 5 had a crime scene to solve! It was a great way to introduce the children to their poetry unit - we will be reading ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes.


This term, year 5 are learning how to play the recorder. 


Year 5 entered 'The Big Chant' competitions an by Huddersfield Town. 

Will you be my Valentine?❤️

Year 5 have enjoyed making Valentines animations on scratch.


We had great fun at the Valentines Day disco.

Dinosaur time🦖

Year 5 created their own dinosaurs using clay. 

Safer Internet Day🖥

We had a great day celebrating internet safety day. We did various activities such as: an internet safety quiz, using BeeBots/Roamers and loads of other fun internet based tasks! Check out the music video we created on the home page. 

A trip to the library📚

We visited the local library and checked out some of out favourite books. 


This week, it was 5JK's time to make pizza with Mrs. Brian.

A huge congrats to Meadow and Ellis for coming 1st and 2nd in their trampling competition.

Mr. Adams has had a great day presenting at the in London. He discussed how technology can have an impact on writing.

Christingle service⛪️

We had a lovely afternoon at our Christingle. Thank you to everybody who joined us. What a nice end to our first term!

🇨🇦Culture day🇪🇸

5KA were Spain for Culture Day. They did flamenco dancing, made Spanish omelettes, designed and made matador or flamenco dancer Christmas baubles and various other activities. 5JK were Canada. They made maple leaf baubles, a hockey presentation by Jacob, played hockey and various other activities. 

Science day🔬

We held our first science day and it was amazing! We did various actives school as: chemical reactions using baking powder, an 'ink' investigation, we became crime scene detectives and analysed a crime scene and made wormeries. Thanks to all the parents who came in and joined in on the fun. 


Today (3/11/18), we held our annual Christmas tree decorating assembly. The theme this year is ‘Twelve days of Christmas’.

We had fun making shortbread and pizza. A big thanks to Colne Valley for having us. 


Death Masks👹

Today, we created our death masks. We can't wait to bring the final product home!

Open Event😄

Thanks to all of our parents for attending our open event. We had a great time doing various activities such as: amulet making, drumming, using the Virtual Tee app and more! We can't wait to invite you in again!

Ready Steady Cook🍕

We had fun learning how to make Pizza at Colne Valley.

We decorated the front of our school with poppies to show respect for those who fought for our country. 

Playing Minecraft in literacy?!🎮

Mr. Adams is clueless at Minecraft, so we had to teach him how to play and then write set of instructions for him. 

Harvest Festival⛪️

On Friday, we went down to St Bartholomew's Church to perform poems, songs and dances for our parents. Year 5's theme was being thankful for our school. We rewrote the lyrics to the fresh prince go Bel-air.


Topic homework🇪🇬

All the children worked really hard on their topic homework. Well done to everyone! Mr. Adams and Mr. Kaye were very proud. Here are some examples of the fab work produced:

A lot of 'heart' work!❤️

On Friday, Year 5 and 6 dissected a cow's heart. We did this as it links to our current science topic: Animals including humans. Previously, we have learnt about the features of a heart and a how a blood cell travel through it.

How the heart works❤️

In science, we are learning how the heart works. The children really enjoyed learning all the scientific names and mapping a heart out on the body. 

Gardening day🌸

This week, at MJS, we held our annual 'Gardening Day'. Thanks to all the parents who came to help sort our garden out.


Fidget Spinner Frenzy!⨕

After starting a fidget spinner investigation at the beginning of term, we finally created our spinners. We used thick card for the frame, coins for the weights and a tooth pick for the axis. Click here to watch the tutorial that we followed.  

Sing like an Egyptian𓀽

This term, in music, we have the pleasure of having Mrs. Baker teach our music lessons. As our topic is Egypt, the lessons have been Egyptian inspired and we have been learning how to create Egyptian styled sounds and ambience.  

A Look Inside👀

Our focus in science is animals including humans. We used an app called 'Virtual Tee' to see how our organs work. We got to prod and poke, go inside and really understand how our bodies function. 


Oompa Loompa Gone Wrong!🤦🏽‍♂️

Our Day Oompa-Loompa cake pops. The first image shows what they should have looked like, and the second image shows how they turned out. I think Mr. Adams and Mr. Kaye need some help in the kitchen. On the plus side, they tasted amazing!
